Cool Kids/Chilled Program for Anxiety

We love Cool Kids Program here at Mindworx Psychology. Cool Kids – and it’s big brother program, Chilled. And it’s little sister program, Cool Little Kids! These are outstanding programs that use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to treat anxiety for preschoolers, primary and high school children.

Perhaps we are biased – many of our Clinical Psychologists trained at Macquarie University to complete our Doctorates – and most of us completed part of our anxiety training at the Centre for Emotional Health, running the programs and developing skills in the assessment and treatment of anxiety when we were trainee psychologists. It is an amazing training environment, with world class researchers.

Our own stories aside, Cool Kids Groups for child anxiety, as well as the Chilled and Cool Little Kids Groups have been extensively evaluated by researchers at Macquarie University and by other research teams worldwide. Typically 8 weeks long, this is a structured, skills-based program for anxiety that teaches children and their parents how to better manage childhood anxiety disorders. And we like it because it works!

Cool Kids courses involve the participation of both children and their parents, and focus on teaching clear and practical skills to manage and reduce anxiety. The program has undergone continual scientific evaluation and development to include the latest understanding of anxiety and its treatment. That’s one of the other reasons why we like it.

Most young people who complete the Cool Kids programs show significant improvement. Following treatment, there are marked increases in school attendance, academic achievement, confidence, number of friends and involvement in extra-curricular activities and decreases in worry, shyness, fear and family distress. Chat with us about how we use Cool Kids – we run groups from time to time, and also offer adapt it for one-on-one sessions, tailored specifically to the needs of your family.
